Poipu Bay Golf Course has an ideal location between the beautiful coastline and lush emerald mountains. The course sprawls across 210 acres of tropical flowers and vegetation. The site is the former home to an ancient Hawaiian village, whose remnants have been incorporated into the course. Golfers have the rare opportunity to play next to 500-year-old handmade stone walls. Poipu Bay's links-style layout features firm fairways, 85 bunkers, and five water hazards throughout. There are open fronts that allow the ball to roll onto the putting surface. Water hazards come into play on eight holes. The unpredictable winds are the most challenging element of this course. The final two holes provide a memorable finish. The 17th features an ancient rock formation known as Mahualepu and the last hole is a demanding par 5 with a large pond on the left and a lateral hazard on the right.

This is the most fair, least gimmicky golf course on Kauai. Consistent greens and fairways, consistent (and not terribly penal) second cut. Hole difficulty varies with wind conditions. Seemingly short holes play long with trade winds, but longer holes shorten with Kona or variable winds. Quality electric carts with touch screens and Blue Tooth, and the best range/practice area set up on the island. Like all resort course pro shops, products are expensive, but they have a little of everything. Also, quality instruction available, including electronic shot analysis available. The crew has little turnover and is more than willing to develop lasting relationships with frequently returning tourists and locals. Value packages are also available.

My wife and I were subjected to very unfriendly and inflexible club and staff. We had bought a twilight round but showed up a couple of hours before the tee time as our morning activities were washed away by torrential rain. We were treated like criminals by the pro shop staff who were implying that we were purposely trying to abuse their rules and "sneak" on to the golf course before our allotted time. We were just trying to spend some practice time on the range to kill time. However, marshalls came to ask us to leave the property until we would be allowed to check in one hour before our tee time. Never again!

Having played at courses both in the US and abroad I was expecting more of a PGA course. This course is beautiful. However, it is not as challenging as one would expect considering the caliber of pros that have played it. The weekend player on vacation should have no problem keeping the ball in the fairways, with normal focus and concentration. The greens are wide and forgiving. For the duffer on vacation it is a bit over priced but still allot of fun...

First off I'll say that I did not think it was worth the money. That said it really is a beautiful course, first rate practice facility, very well stocked pro shop and the finishing holes(15-17)....wow. It was also pretty cool to see all the big names' scorecards framed in the hallway ( Phil, Tiger, Ernie, etc)kind of like a hard rock cafe!!! After playing Kiahuna first though I thought Poipu was a good bit overpriced ($75 - $90 cheaper would be more appropriate), perhaps the course is riding on it's rep' of having hosted the Grand Slam????

In the late afternoon with the sun setting over the coast there really isn't a prettier spot to be in the world. The design is good enough to test the pros, but not as penal as the Prince Course, which can really eat your lunch - so its better for mid and high-handicappers. Winds can be high on this part of the island so get your low ball ready.

This is a very good course - pretty good on front nine, but the beautiful finishing holes are absolutely spectacular. The conditioning of the course was very good. The hotel here is a large one that hosts a lot of business meetings and conventions.
